Has anyone played Warlock or Caverns yet
Did you use the Mapper, Character sheets, Illustrations pages and Tokens while running the adventures
Did you make any alterations? If so, what were they
Come on guys, give us some feedback

Haven't played them right now. However, I plan to play Warlock with a 6-PC group, any advice on how to give a proper challenge ? Should I use some formulae like : three 4th-level PC = six 2nd-level PC or should I increase the opponents' number ?
Thanks |

Feldrin,
6 players for Warlock...Wow!
Firstly, what levels will the 6 characters be?

They're level 2 right now, the characters will probably play all the FF adventures, so the question about the levels will be the same for Caverns, Deathtrap Dungeon and Sorcery!1.
Do you think six 2nd-level characters stand a chance ? And if so, should I let them play "Caverns" when they're level 4 or wait a bit longer to let them power up ?
Thanks |

I think that six 2nd-level characters stand a good chance if you consider making a couple of minor changes first:
1. Remove all poisons
2. Add a couple of extra Luck point rewards (and encourage the characters to use Luck for attack rolls and reducing the damage caused by monsters)
3. Add a couple more healing potions here and there.
4. Remove the hell Hound from encounter 36
5. Replace the vampire Spawn with a Wight in encounter 38 (this is optional as the characters dont actually need to fight the Vampire Spawn)
6. Reduce the Warlock to a Sor6. I realise this still a major challenge for a 2nd level party, but there are ways to defeat him without combat :o)
Hope this helps

thanks for your advices. I'll play the adventure with these changes and tell you how the players do :-)
by the way, I had some concerns about the stats of a NPC in the adventure "Caverns of...", I started a thread in the appropriate forum but haven't been replied to yet..
Again thanks Jamie |

Feldrin,
how did the adventure go?
Did your party of 2nd level adventurers manage to kill the Warlock and plunder his treasure?

I'm in the U.S and I finally got my copies of the modules (again, thanks a lot to Mike!)
My retailer now is convinced and has copies on display so future releases will be accessible to me.
I am planning on reading through Warlock (#1) this week and play it with a few friends. I will post feedback here when I get the chance, I know Jamie appreciates it. ;)
Ok...now to get back to reading....

Hi,
I haven't played the adventure yet. Couldn't gather all the players at the same time because of holidays ;-)
I'll post feedback as soon as I run the adventure.

Ok, after reading half of it (i'll probably finish it in the next day or two) these are a few of my opinions:
- Overall expectations and hopes were fullfilled. The module followed the book very closely which I had hoped it would do. Other non-FF fans may think these modules are a bit simplistic but thats how the FF books were. Quests. Which I so dearly miss.
- Artwork is great,I hoped to see more but there probably isn't much more space left to put it without adding more pages. I really like being able to download the artwork as well.
- I haven't used the map program yet. The maps in the module are good.
- I like having the ready made PC's in the modules. I will use them if ever in a short rush.
- The text from the FF books was only slightly altered it seems yet most remains intact. I plan to alter it a bit more to include any missing text from the FF books for certain room descriptions etc.
- I know someone argued the fact of the Warlock suited more as a wizard. I think leaving him a sorcerer is fine. Unfortunately I do not use sorcerers in my house rules so I have to change him to a wizard.
- I probably will not use the luck rule even though its a part of the game. Not that its a bad rule. The rule is fine, I simply do not want to add it to my game. (My games are very rules lite)
and lastly and most importantly to me:
Thank you Myriador (Jamie) for making these modules flexible, adaptable, true to the books and easily playable by either ONE character or up to 3 or 4!
When I actually run the game I'll find some time to post more opinions.... |

I guess I should post my thoughts on Warlock now I have finished reading it
Overall, I liked it. As someone who creates a lot of stuff for D&D, I must say I think some of the challenge ratings are off a bit, but this is something I can easily fix. There were a few editing problems, but overall it was smooth running.
I LOVE the luck mechanic, and the extra stuff about Gilford at the end is a nice touch. The mapper is a valuable resource as are the downloadable character sheets.
My only question is will we see an official 3.5 conversion of them? A web enhancement or such? I am working on my own rough conversion but always nice to have something official :) |
