I'm chiming in on this discussion a bit late, but I have to say I agree with Rabel. As he stated, FF was my introduction to RPG's in general and, while I don't read them anymore, I still have all of the 40+ gamebooks, the 2 novels and other assorted FF 'RPG' materials and recall all of them fondly.
It has occurred to me in the past to 'convert' FF gamebooks to D20 but found the elements not engaging enough for my 20-30-something group. In fact, I think they would quickly become bored with such a 'simplistic' design as I remember WoFT and CotSW to be. I think only minor changes to ecology and an enhancement of the plot would be required to make the most out of them.
By snagging the FF license, you are in a unique and enviable position to tweak and/or 'refine' the gamebooks so that the d20 adventures have a broader appeal. For me, Rabel has nailed the key issues in an eloquent and constructive manner, and I echo his sentiments.
At any rate, I will be sure to look over your products when they hit our shores, in particular the Sorcery! series - definitely my favourite FF gamebooks of them all. |
